I’m so glad you’re here and are curious about what it takes to start a blog successfully.
Allow me to lead you down the path of blog creation with my simple baby steps guide.
There will be no heavy information in this post, just a light load of 5 easy tasks you can do today to turn a concept into an infant that will hopefully one day take off and run!
The 5 Baby Steps to Starting a Blog
You don’t need a team of expensive experts to start a successful blog. All you really need is passion and purpose!
Baby Step 1.) Start a blog with a great concept
The first thing you need to do is come up with a great concept. Choosing the niche for your blog is crucial in order to have an identity that will attract the right readers.
I suggest choosing a niche that is narrow enough that you won’t be a tiny fish in a big pond (so to speak). Keeping your blog niched-down will also make it easier for you to know what to write about.
Baby Step 2.) Choose a simple domain name for your blog
This part is really fun!
Brainstorming the perfect domain name is one of my favorite parts of starting a blog. I recommend keeping your domain name simple and concise.
Try and think of something that is easily remembered and catchy. The name you choose shouldn’t be too abstract either.
It’s always best to try and find a domain with a .com at the end, since that is what most people are conditioned to using.
Also, consider using a keyword that best describes your niche and try to have that at the beginning of your domain name.
An example of this would be…
niche:
gardening for grandparents
example domain:
gardeninggrandparents.com
P.S. Having a good host is crucial to your blog’s success, here’s mine.
Baby Step 3.) Come up with a great tagline
Your tagline should help search engines get an overall idea of what you’re blog is about. This step in the blog creation process should be less personal and more strategic.
Think of your tagline as a small sentence to add keywords to that describe your blog’s purpose to those searching for your content. Let’s use the domain example given above to explore some tagline options.
Tagline examples for www.gardeninggrandparents.com
- “Gardening and growth for grandparents”
- “Grandparents gardening for generations to come”
- “A garden of growth for grandparents”
Baby Step 4.) Design a blog worthy logo
Designing a logo is something you can do yourself. There are so many amazing apps and programs now you can use for free!
I love using Canva for most of my graphic designs, but I also really like Pic Monkey as well.
They are insanely user-friendly and have a ton of interesting font options, graphics and stock photos to get creative with.
Let’s think about what the first rendition of your logo should look like. I recommend keeping things simple to start with.
Stick with a legible font that showcases your blog’s name. Maybe add one additional element that quickly and easily identifies your niche.
Again, don’t try and get too clever with your logo at first. Spend no more than an hour on it and move on to the next baby step.

Baby Step 5.) Brainstorm post ideas
It will hugely benefit you to sit down and spend a couple of hours brainstorming blog post ideas. Doing this will give your baby blog steam to sustain the first few months of blogging. If you have at least fifty blog post ideas you’re in good shape!
The most important aspect of a new blog is content! Consistently putting out great content is what will legitimize your blog in googles eyes and the traffic will come because of it.
Content matters much more than aesthetics for a new blog, so make writing stellar blog posts a priority!
Conclusion
